Orbis Terrarvm, my current project, merges fine‑art photography, Earth science, and cultural history to explore the meaning of home and our place in the cosmos.

In 2013, a conversation at the kitchen table with ESA astronaut André Kuipers sparked an idea. As he spoke about his months living aboard the International Space Station (ISS), his enthusiasm was infectious. I wanted to experience that same awe of seeing Earth from orbit — and the only way to bring that feeling to life was to create an immersive experience.

From the outset, my goal has been to convey the emotional experience of witnessing the scale and grandeur of Earth’s varied landscapes from 400 kilometers above — to bring the orbital perspective as close as possible to those of us who may never see it firsthand.

My approach was simple: start wherever you are, follow the questions that arise, and learn what is needed along the way.

For more than a decade, I have combed through millions of ISS photographs in NASA’s archives, elevating the most compelling images and time‑lapse sequences into fine art. The result is a collection that captures what astronauts describe: awe, humility, and wonder.

Astronauts don’t just document our home planet; they show us where we’re from. With the International Space Station (ISS) scheduled to de-orbit in 2030, the era of continuous human presence in orbit will be relegated to history — and along with it, the perspective from this vantage point. Orbis Terrarvm helps ensure this perspective remains part of our collective memory.
