Building Dreams (part 5)
This post is part of a series about a mosaic project I'm working on with teens at a school in a 'disadvantaged' area of Rotterdam. I'll share with you what I'm experiencing and learning along the way.
And so ended lesson #4 today. And I must say today's lesson went absolutely great! There were 8 students this week with 3 teachers (including me). Three kids from last week dropped out - the upside to this is that the teacher to student ratio was greatly improved, and the kids who came got the personal attention they needed. And they also got a lot done in a short time! All in all I'm very impressed with what they achieved.
There are 3 artworks in progress, all of which are stylistically different. This makes it rather interesting. One is a grafitti-style face, another is a floral motif, and the third artwork is a geometric design. All are being done using a tile grid. The kids' interpretations for all 3 designs are radically different. Next week will be interesting as the artworks start to really take shape.
