Building Dreams (part 6)
This post is part of a series about a mosaic project I'm working on with teens at a school in a 'disadvantaged' area of Rotterdam. I'll share with you what I'm experiencing and learning along the way.
Today was the last session to work on the artworks. And guess what? The boy working on the grafitti face came back...as did the boy who actually designed it! So that was REALLY GREAT! Of course the other kids from last week came back, as well.
For the 2 teachers with whom I've been working and me - we had a great time, too. Just picture 3 adults smiling and winking at each other because the kids were no longer resisting but happy and proud of their accomplishments. What a proud afternoon for us all!
And it was so much fun today that I forgot to take any photos (ok, so I took 1 photo). So stay tuned for more once I get the sheets of tile laid in cement & grouted. There are 2 other small artworks that were improvised today - you'll see those once I've done my "magic" in the studio.
Annnnd there will be a party for the kids in my studio in about a month (after their Spring break and after my much-welcomed vacation).
And I'm still trying to learn a few words in Turkish. "Seninle gurur duyuyorum" means "I'm proud of you" in Turkish, by the way. You can be sure I used those words!! :-)
In the meantime, here's a video...
