Brit Hammer designs and creates glass art and architectural installations for public, commercial, and residential applications. Her work is exhibited both in the Netherlands and abroad, and she is internationally known for her use of color.
This is the first piece in a new style of working that I callĀ deconstructionistic mosaic. It's a piece that is part fresco painting and part glass mosaic.
"Becoming" is about evolution. The artwork tells the story of becoming one's true self and the different phases one must pass through in the process. The 3D spiral is built up at the edges and becomes level and balanced towards the center; this represents going within and finding harmony inside. The flowers and sharp pieces of glass forming the spiral tell the story of rebirth through releasing old thought and behavior patterns. The colors of the rainbow blended together symbolize all aspects of life coming together, with the "highest" color, a gentle lavender, in the center.
