Then you will be free to live your dream life
If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's to trust myself. But it didn't come easily to me, nor did it come naturally. But with practice it got easier!
"Trust in what you love, continue to do it, and it will take you where you need to go." -- Natalie Goldberg
That quote is the story of my life. It is what led me to make a leap of faith and to quit my fashion job in NYC in 2000. Without a new job to go to, I was free to travel. At first my plan was small, but a tiny voice in my head told me to "think bigger". So I asked myself where I would like to go that I "never had time" to visit. And the answer? New Zealand.
Once I decided I was going to New Zealand, the next question was "What do I do when I'm there?" The answer that popped into my head was to go mountain hiking to overcome a fear that had developed when I fell on some scree while hiking in Norway's mountains in 1989.
My goal for the hike was to "find out what I'm made of". (Yes, that is the exact question I asked myself.) I also had a strong feeling I was going to meet my husband on that trip and was terrified at the idea because I was finally okay with being single. And you can already guess that Armand was on that hike. Six weeks later I packed up my life and moved to Rotterdam to share life with him!
I won't sugarcoat my story and tell you that the years that followed were easy. In fact, they were hard. Moving to a new country where you know only one person (who you just met), have no income, can't speak the language... Yeah, it was hard.
Here's how I succeeded in turning things around and making a beautiful life for myself: I did my Inner Work.
It was a lot of baby steps, complete with standing up, falling down, and standing back up again. I persevered and used that tiny grain of faith in myself to keep me going when the going got tough. And I learned to trust my heart -- to follow my heart even when logic told me to quit while I was ahead. And here I am, living an artful life that I dreamed for myself.
I am living proof that it's possible to create your dream life.
Armand and I are living proof that "happily ever after" is also possible.
When you trust your heart, this is when you find true freedom.
