My work explores the meaning of home, belonging, and our place in a vast universe through immersive visual storytelling.

In 2013, a conversation at the kitchen table with astronaut André Kuipers sparked an idea. As he spoke about his months aboard the International Space Station (ISS), his enthusiasm was infectious. I wanted to experience that same awe of seeing Earth from orbit.

From the outset, my goal has been to convey the emotional experience of witnessing the scale and grandeur of Earth's varied landscapes from 400 kilometers above, bringing that perspective as close as possible to those of us who will never see it firsthand.

My approach was simple: start wherever you are, follow the questions that arise, and learn what is needed along the way.

For more than a decade, I have combed through millions of ISS photographs in NASA's archives, transforming the work of hundreds of astronauts into original fine-art panoramas and ultra-high-resolution short films. Together, these works form a collective portrait of our planet.

Astronauts don't just document our planet, they show us where we're from.

Through my work I invite viewers to see Earth as our shared home and to find connection, belonging, and beauty within it.

Brit Hammer-Dijcks is an award-winning visual artist whose work reimagines astronaut photography through immersive visual storytelling. For more than a decade, she has worked with NASA's archives, transforming the photographic record of astronauts aboard the International Space Station into original fine-art panoramas and ultra-high-resolution time-lapse video. Her work has been featured internationally in films, museums, and architectural installations.
